Coldfire sat next to the stone, frustration pouding through her. this is folly! she thought angrily. What was thinking about her past going to prove?! She had spent her entire life trying to forget it! "So my parents failed to protect me! The rogues took me away, and they could do nothing! she snarled, slashing out at the stone, causing a lighter colored scratch to etch into the stone. "I have no place in the clans, and never will....unlike my father and sister!" she growled. "They left me dead! Grizzlyclaw never even came to look for me!" she screeched, slashing the stone more and more until her nails broke, and red stained her paws. The young she-cat bowed her head in exaughstion and defeat, tears pouring from her eyes. "Why wasn't I worth it? Why am I never worth it?" she whispered. It had been the first time she had faced the deep hurt she had felt with an open heart....was this what the stone was for? Coldfire glanced at the stone. Could she really help the clans to be free of evil cats without being tempted to join the easy life they led? Anything seems easier than the lonely life I have lived... Coldfire sat longer still, staring and staring at the stone, willing it to give her some kind of answer to her never ending questions. Slowly, the sun began to rise and the sky began to brighten. "Yes...I will fight for Trueclan. And if I can never have my own family back, I will create my own...I will teach them what love truly is, though my family was unable to teach me...and I will help protect them, even though they didn't come for me..." Coldfire whispered her oath.

Softheart glanced at Coldfire. He hadn't been in camp for most of the day after the dawn had broke. He just watched her, trying to hide in what little shadow there was. He started edging around her, not wanting to be realized. The sleek tom knew she would probably catch him, but he would try not to be. Why did it have to take so long? He growled in his head.
Taking the next step, not paying attention, Softheart stepped on a draw patch of grass, making a small crushing sound. His head swung around to look at Coldfire.

Sorrow clung heavily to the white she-cat's heart. She had returned to the Stone, to seek its comforting powers again. Usually she only went once every moon, but now her loneliness had consumed her and she was in need of comfort somehow, some way. She had been padding calmly through the gorse when she heard a sound. Her elegant ears pricked forward on her skull and her violet-blue eyes flashed as she looked around. That look- that sad, lonely look in her eyes- lingered still as she hesitantly continued. Then she heard the scraping of claws, and her hackles stood up straight. She crouched, letting her white fur mingle with the earthy coloring. She inched forward, her crazed eyes searching. Are you there? Can you really be there? The thoughts pounded through her mind like a million paws slamming onto her head. She slowly poked her head out from behind a hazel bush, and observed the cat who stood there. She was a tortoiseshell, with fierce amber eyes. Not quite who the white she-cat had longed to see. In fact, the she-cat had never seen this cat here before. She was hesitant for a moment, watching with her strange violet eyes. They snapped to the side in an instant when she heard the crackling of trodden-on foilage. The fur along her spine tingled. Two cats!? Oh great StarClan! She thought, exasperated. She looked towards the Stone with longing in her eyes. My only friend... a rock. She thought bitterly, digging her claws into the turf before her.

Coldfire's ears bent back to lay on her head. "It isn't customary for Trueclanners to come here unless it is to become a Guardian, or to seek guidance or to renew your oath in the absence of a ceremony, so tell me, why have you come here, Softheart?" The she cat said coldly in her odd dark and raspy tone, somehow knowing which cat it was even though her back still faced him and her gaze was still held unwavering on the stone.

The she-cat's ears pricked father forward. TrueClan? Was there a new Clan among those she had known when she was but an apprentice? The cat dug her claws into the turf. She had never heard of a Guardian before. It sounded interesting, at least. But did that mean she couldn't come to the Stone anymore? An ache formed in her chest. Without the rock, perhaps she would go mad. It was there she could talk to her brother, and there she could let out the sorrow she held back at all other times. No, she thought to herself, pinning back her ears. I will come. She braced herself and waited still. Once these cats were gone, or at least one of them, she would go and do what she came to. She had to.

Softheart groaned. "I was trying to get back to camp is all..." He muttered in answer like an apprentice getting in trouble. He turned and looked at Coldfire. His eyes were hiding something.

Her ears swiveled around at the sound of another voice. An intense stirring began to form within the she-cat's heart - the longing to converse with her kind. It was one thing to talk madly to birds and beetles, but to talk with a creature that could answer. Even her rock couldn't do that. But the hostility that seemed to flare about these Clanners was apparent, and even crazed as she was the loner knew the ways of the Clan and knew she would not be welcomed in the least. Clans were very territorial, and the she-cat didn't think she could bear to wander far from the Stone. Her violet eyes locked on it, and she inched forward so that her white paw emerged slightly from the undergrowth, but in an instant she pulled it back, flattening herself against the earth and pinning back her ears. Even I'm not a match for two cats. Besides, I haven't fought another cat in moons. She thought, yet no fear penetrated her gaze. She flexed her claws, feeling the call of the Stone and its soothing powers. I must lie on it before the sun leaves the earth. Oh, would these "Guardians" or whatever they are just leave!? She thought impaitently, shifting her wieght from paw to paw.
