The black tom padded among the stones, his heart plummeting with every step. Why do I suddenly feel that I'm doing something wrong? He thought sadly, looking out with fierce amber eyes to the river that flowed so peacefully by the tormeted being he was. Nothing is wrong when you do it for yourself, Nightpaw. His father's voice hissed in his mind. Nightpaw started. That didn't sound like anything he wanted to live by! He wanted to serve his Clan, not himself! No. I won't hurt my Clan for my own selfish purposes! He thought harshly. Then you'll just die an old cat who accomplished nothing! Hissed the voice of Shadowmoon. Nightpaw shook his head, wandering from the stones. Get out of my mind, foxdung! He thought furiously, shaking his head and all the while unconsiously inching closer and closer to... not the river, but... the ravine.
"I said, GET OUT!!" He screeched, and suddenly his paws slipped on the embankment and he let out a silent yowl of terror as he plunged downwards into darkness. Foamy spray misted his pelt and wieghed him down further, and suddenly a cold world enveloped him as the sting of water pierced his skin. Nightpaw thrashed out feebly, trying to get a pawhold on something. He opened his mouth in a desperate attempt to cry out, but water filled it and he found himself losing consiousness as the life ebbed from him. Suddenly through the green and blue and black waters, he saw something grey coming right at him. His eyes widened and suddenly his head struck the rock and everything went black.
The black tom slowly opened his eyes. Where was he? What had happened to him? Who was he? He unsheathed his claws and dug them into the soft turf beneath him. He blinked in confusion. He was sitting next to a small creek, his fur plastered to his skin and his head caked in dripping blood. He turned to see a black shape sitting not far off, watching him with emotionless amber eyes. The two stood there - midnight black toms with the fiercest of autumn eyes - almost identical if it weren't for Nightpaw's white chest, nose, and paws. The half-drowned tom hesitantly arose, his body shrieking with pain. The other dipped his head slightly.
"You are not from around here, are you?" Asked the black tom in a monotone voice, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"I'm not sure." The wet tom replied, shaking himself a little to rid his fur of the clinging droplets of water. The black tom looked at him with a spark of interest in his eye.
"Really? Well you're a strong one, no doubt. Most cats wouldn't have survived a tumble down the ravine." He meowed. The black and white tom looked at the river and following it with his eyes saw the rapids just above. So that's what happened to me. But why can't I remember?
"You must have hit your head pretty hard to get a gash like that." The monotone voice continued. The black tom padded over to the river and looked down at his reflection, and as he did a scarlet drop fell and dissapaited into the torrents.
"W-what's happened? Why can't I remember anything?" He murmured softly.
"Amnesia, huh? Well, I can't help you there." The other tom mewed. The black and white tom turned and fixed him with his fierce amber gaze.
"Who are you?" He demanded. The tom smirked slightly.
"I am Fade, of SilenceClan." He meowed emotionlessly, not with one touch of pride. The unnamed tom looked into Fade's eyes, and saw there a spark of something he hadn't noticed before. Loneliness.
"Well, it's nice to meet you. D-did you...?" The tom trailed off, staring at the creek.
"Save you? Well, hardly, but I did manage to pull you out of the stream before you hit the other rapids." Fade meowed.
"Thank you." The black tom said softly. Fade blinked.
"Don't mention it. So, you have no idea who you are, nor where you live?"
"I'm afraid so."
"Well, the water washed all your scent away. Huh, this won't be easy. C'mon, and I'll take you to our camp." Fade turned and padded away from the river, flicking his black tail for the unnamed tom to follow.
"So, what shall I call you?" Fade asked over his shoulder, one of his whiskery brows raised slightly. The black tom started.
"Well... I don't really know..."
"How about... Raven? That seems to fit you pretty well." He meowed.
"Ok!" Raven exclaimed, his amber eyes lighting up as he padded alongside Fade. Little did Raven know that Fade had took a liking to him. Usually the black tom was completely silent, but now as they walked along they conversed quietly and the loneliness in Fade's eyes seemed to fade away as he led Raven... to SilenceClan.
OOC: Just to let you guys know, I was going to call him Shadow but since there's Shadowfur I decided against it. I know I'm supposed to have a kit named Raven, but bear with me.
