Foxtail's gentle gaze flickered to a spot where the churning water fell out of the sky. The waterfall gleamed in a rainbow streak today. Much like when it had with Foxtail's first apprentice. She shook the thoughts out of her head. But she couldn't help thinking of a prophecy that meant so much. 'Rubies glitter brighter than the fox's eyes.' It made sense. But Rubypaw wasn't here anymore. Foxtail sighed, turning her thoughts instead to Flamepaw. Some new blood could maybe end up the same. Foxtail hoped it wouldn't.
"Out with the old, in with the new."Foxtail mumbled. "So, Flamepaw, would you like to work on; Memorizing the herbs, The herbs and their uses, or talk about StarClan's great mysteries."she rehearsed for when the apprentice would soon arrive.

Flamepaw padded into the den her ginger fur blazing in the sunlight. She had caught what her mentor said and answered through the squirrel fur "Mysteries of Starclan." She padded over and dropped the squirrel at her feet. "I thought you might be hungry."

"Oh!" Foxtail exclaimed, surprised that the apprentice had arrived, and heard what she had been rehearsing. "Thank you." She said, nodding to the squirrel. "Would you like to share?" Foxtail began plotting on how to talk about StarClan while she waited for an answer.

"I've been better." Foxtail said glumly. "But let us talk about my favorite topic; StarClan." Foxtail smiled. She remembered teaching Rubypaw, in the same places, about StarClan. She sighed.
"StarClan have many a great mystery to unfold for us. You must always e careful, however, for you must interpret them precisely. It may one day mess up the Clan if you do one thing incorrectly. I'll give you an example. Say you receive a prophecy. It says that, we'll say, Prey will run through the forest's paws, while white the pelt grows. What do you think it would mean?"

Flamepaw pondered the statement. "I think it could mean the prey will run as leafbare comes" she mewed.

Foxtail smiled. "My old mentor told me to that it meant that the coming leafbare would be preyless. Many cats died, and many others grew ill. I thought long and hard about it, but I never knew what we might have missed. I know now that they were warning of the lack of prey, never the disease. Why? I never knew."
Now, not all prophecies are verbal. Some are signs. What do you think this means; A small, snow-white feather falling slowly, turning and twisting in pure silence?" This was one of the newest prophecies Foxtail had experienced recently. She had yet to understand its full meaning.

Flamepaw tried to visualize the falling white feather. She pondered its meaning silently. "I think it could mean that leafbare will come suddenly without warning and it will arrive with a storm." she mewed.

"That could be it..." She pondered it a moment. Silence... "Maybe something to do with SilenceClan?" she asked Flamepaw.

Flamepaw remembered the stories of the murderous clan. "Maybe it could mean Silenceclan will come and meet us in battle" she mewed.

"What happened to them recently? I heard they fought with ShadowClan. But that doesn't mean much..." Foxtail frowned, deeply pondering. A little voice in the back of her mind spoke the truth, but she was oblivious to its shouts. A cool breeze picked up, the water rippled in the wind. But only slightly against the pounding water feature.

Flamepaw listened to her mentor. "I heard about the battle" she mewed "but i'm not sure what happened." "Maybe they're going after each clan individually" she suggested.

Foxtail sighed, lashing her tail in frustration. "Well, moving on. What would you say if you saw in a dream; A beautiful silver streak in the night sky, lined by stars in the shape of a cat's face? And the moonlight came in red?" One of the first examples Foxtail had remembered. It was one she had solved as her mentor had died - she had seen his face in the stars in blood red moonlight. It pained her, but she knew this may happen to her apprentice.

Flamepaw envisioned the scene. She pondered the signs. "It could a cat is going to pass on to Star Clan" she answered.

"Perfect." Foxtail said, attempting cheer. Yet her voice had a subtle, if not very well hidden, hint of sadness. "You will be a fine cat at interpreting signs. But that is not all StarClan does for us. What else can you think of?"

"Starclan guides our pawsteps without us realizin it" she mewed. "They have a plan, in which each of us fit" she added.

Foxtail glanced up from staring blankly into the earth. "Yes." She meowed uneasily. That made her nervous. Glancing around, she could feel the presence of yet another cat. She thought back to her dream. Frowning, she rose and padded out of the den. Glancing back, she called, "Come. I'm going to teach you some of the spots that you can find the herbs needed. And I'll teach you what they mean."
